March's Birthstone


This natural gemstone is the blue member of the Beryl family, its name comes from the Latin word for Seawater, and was belived to keep sailors safe at sea. It is also thought to enhance the happiness of marriages and is March's birthstone.

The best gems display a strong light-to-mid blue or blueish-green hues in an even colour band, whilst displaying a high clarity and pellucid transparency. 


Hardness: 7½ (on Moh’s hardness scale.)

Chemical composition: Beryllium aluminium silicate. Part of the Beryl family of minerals.
